Day 3

Day Three, Region

Regions are areas that are defined by certain similar characteristics. These characteristics can be physical, natural, human, or cultural. You can use region to differ one place from another. In this case I will be separating the different regions at and around Cardigan. I could do this for each and everyday we were at Cardigan but today I will be talking about day three, our final day.

Morning (waking up)

Yet again I was woken by a man cracking open our door and telling us that it was time to make up. We had a little bit of time to prepare for our last day of hiking. We also had to pack up our stuff and put it in the trailer so we could leave right when we got back from hiking. After packing up we ate breakfast, and packed our lunch for later. That day's lunch was the same as the day before, a sandwich, cookie, and a bar of your choice.

Evening (hiking)

With our lunches really we met at big bird rock where again we mapped out our route for the day. We then started to hike, along the way we hiked past many streams that were very explorable. However we did stop to sketch a lot, one time after we sketched we tried to call chickadees for the third and final time. This time however it worked, as the birds got so close I could make out the shape of their little beaks. After a lot more hiking we finally stopped at a stream, although this time it was the biggest one that we have explored. The stream area would be considered a region. This is true because it has characteristics that are different from the regions around it. For instance, the stream region has water, salamanders, water bugs, mosquito larva, waterfalls, moss, algae, fishing. These characteristics make this area different from its surroundings making it a region. Me and Alex climbed onto a little cliff over the stream. I slipped and both of my legs were hanging over the ledge. Luckily I pulled myself up, but again in no time we had to move on from the stream and keep hiking. Once we made it to Welton Falls we enjoyed our lunch that we had packed earlier that day. When we had finished our lunch we walked down to where we could see the waterfall (where the log is). The waterfall was beautiful and at the log we saw several fish who were also beautiful in there own way. After looking at the waterfall we hiked back to the AMC lodge. After three days with my beloved walking stick I had to say goodbye, so I chucked it into the woods and ran away trying not to look back. Just to end the Cardigan trip on a high note we played a couple more games in the field like we did on the first day. Finally, after a long three days of Cardigan the bus pulled up and we said goodbye to all the counselors. We hopped onto the bus and sang songs and talked the entire ride home. Hopkinton is an extremely different region that the Cardigan region. For example, the Hopkinton region has houses, cars, roads, fields, stores, restaurants, and forests while Cardigan has trees, rocks, birds (other animals too), mountains, trails, waterfalls, ponds, lakes, streams. These two places are unmistakable different and that is why we consider them into two different regions.
