Day 2

Human envirnment interaction

Most of the things we saw on day two fell into the geography theme Human Envirnment Interaction. Here are a few examples of Human Envirnment Interaction. There were solar panels next to the lodge to make electricity from the sun. Then we left the lodge and started on the Manning trail. And porta-potties were the first thing that we saw that was man made in the woods. We tried eating spruce gum from a tree on the way up, tasted really bad by the way. There were blazes and kerns to show our way up the mountain. We first summited Firescrew (which seemed like we would never find the summit of), then climbed the saddle to Cardigan. We took lots of pictures and ate lunch on Cardigan mt. . We made our descent and took a look inside the high cabin in the woods and played a game outside about trees and what they need to survive. We saw the fire warden's house near the summit of Cardigan. Then we got back to the lodge we had a campfire and did skits about our day at hiking. They are all examples of Human Envirnment interaction because they have to do with the envirnment changing us and how we change the envirnment. Then also over the course of the trip I got 5 bloody noses because of the elevation change.

Our group leader told us the top of cardigan is all rock because there was a forest fire and it destroyed all the trees, and over time the heavy wind blew all the dirt away and there was just rock. Because of the forest fire they put a watch tower on the summit of Cardigan mt.. The counselor leaders tell us not to step on the grass on top of Firescrew and Cardigan because it takes a long time for it to grow.
