3. Scrutinized- to examine of inspect closly and thoroughly.
Summary: Columbus, trying to get back home, decided to take the route that he took out. However, instead of landing where he wanted, he landed in the Cape St. Vincent in Portugal. Here, the Ninas crew wanted to go to the church to pray to the Madonna. But instead, they were almost captured by the natives. Seeing as they were suspicious of Columbus and his crew.
My immediate thought is to agree with these people. Why should we support a man that hurt so many others? Name a holiday after a man, that did bad deeds. There is proof that he was a part of some genocides, grand theft, rasism, rape, torture, and many other bad deeds. However, if Columbus didn't travel to Cuba we might not of discovered it. So he did an even amount of good and bad. Actually, maybe not even. But still.... This makes me feel confused. Becuase I dont know whether we should celebrate Columbuses good deeds, or celebrate the people that stopped him. My opinion is that we should change the name to Indigenous People's Day. That is because doing bad things almost covers up for the good things that you do. This would affect us because changing a holiday name would be a difference we all would have to get used to. This is a national holiday. That means that the entire nation will be affected by changing the name to Indigenous Peoples Day.
