In the town of Orange New Hampshire, there lies Cardigan Mountain. At the base of this mountain, there is the AMC Cardigan lodge. The absolute location of the lodge is 43 degrees, 36 minutes, and 58.5 seconds north for the latitude, and 71 degrees, 52 minutes, and 40.5 seconds west for longitude. The Cardigan lodge in Orange NH is about 50 miles from Hopkinton. When you go on the twisty road and get there, you will see a pond and about 5 solar panels.

Cultural & Physical Geography!

At Cardigan

The cultural geography the first thing I saw at Cardigan was the AMC lodge where we set up all of our stuff in our cabins. Looking at the lodge, to the left was a field with a circle of logs for sitting around the campfire, and where we played games. Looking at the lodge, to the right was rows of solar panels that ran the electricity for the whole lodge! All of the trails we hiked are apart of cultural geography because people had to clear out trails so that people can actually hike on them and go to a specific place so that people weren't just walking around in the woods trying to find a destination. That is also why there are trailblazers and cairns so you know that you are on the correct trail. On the top of Mount Cardigan, you could also find cultural geography because at the top, there is a fire tower and also a small cabin if you (look at the fire tower) go left and down the super steep rocks! Of course, we all needed food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but it wasn't like the staff was going to do all of the work! So, each hiking group would help set up and/or clean up after the meals. In all, even out in some nature, you can find cultural geography!

At Cardigan Mountain, of course there was physical geography too! The first you might recognize, is the actual mountain itself and its peaks! Hiking in the woods, you could always find a variety of trees such as American Beech trees, Hemlocks, and much more. You didn't have to just go to the nature hike to find animals, there were many spread about. Though in the stream at the nature walk, you could find all sorts of creatures such as mud puppies, newts, water bugs, and much more that we did not even find! While hiking up tails, we found many things to eat too. Tree gum, golden thread, and wintergreen were just a few things we tried. Along trails, you could also find moose tracks, bear marks(because everyone has an itch sometimes), and could hear chipmunks and squirrels running around in the leaves. There is so much more to Cardigan mountain and trails around it other than your destination the actual mountain you might climb!

We were there for 3 days, Sunday , Monday, and Tuesday . Sunday was our first day so we unpacked our items and went hiking. My first hike was Welton falls. The second every group hiked up to the top of Mount Cardigan. Finally, on tuesday, we went on the nature hike, packed up, and went back to Hopkinton.
