The Black Zone is known for its black-colored rocks. These rocks are black because of the Cyanobacteria growing on their surfaces. This is the highest of the intertidal zones, and is also called the Splash Zone.
The White Zone is the second-highest zone on the beach. It is made up of the same black rocks as the zone above it, but the main difference is that the white zone rocks are littered with clusters of barnacles. They can be found clinging to these rocks, or opening and feeding inside small tidal pools.
The Red Zone is the most biodiverse zone. During low tides, its the zone with the most tidepools, and low level water wich tends to be filled with small critters and plants. When its high tide, the red zone is the deepest, and still full of life
