On day three, the final day of Cardigan, the plan was to go to Welton Falls and do a couple of other fun things before we had to get on the bus to go home. When we woke up in the morning we had a little bit of free time before we had our filling breakfast of chocolate chip muffins, crispy home fries, and sausage links. After breakfast, we got ready in our hiking gear one last time for the hike to Welton Falls and packed up our rooms. I was feeling tired but still ready to take on the day. At our last briefing we learned that today was going to be extra special because Mr. Woolner was going to be with us the whole day. We set out and it wasn't long before Mr. Woolner was telling us all sorts of cool things about the trees, the history of the land where it had washed away in a storm, and stone walls. It was really cool to learn about the Romeo and Juliette tree. We named her "Mapelock" because these two trees actually fused together in forbidden love! Before we knew it we were at Welton falls eating lunch amazed by the power of the waterfall and the beauty of it all. One thing that will stick with me from that time is the story Mr. Woolner told on the bank that a native person told to him long ago about how Hemlock got his tiny needles, tiny cones, and bent leader. Sadly, it was time to head back to the bus and go back to our normal lives. I was tired and hiking slowly, but it was nice because I got to walk and talk with Mr. Woolner about many amazing things. We exited the woods and it was time to say goodbye to our awesome guides, the lodge, and the beautiful nature of Mount Cardigan.
