Day two, what we did and saw, at Cardigan Mountain. After waking up from a restful sleep everyone got ready for the day ahead and the long hike to the summit of both Firescrew and Cardigan Mountain. We all went downstairs and found a wonderful breakfast with scrambled eggs, tater tots, and a french toast casserole. Following breakfast, we head out and start our hike to the top of the mountain. On the way up the mountain we saw different types of trees and plants, heard different birds singing, and we drew everything we saw into our sketchbooks. When we were on the trail we dug up some plants to eat. As we neared the top of Firescrew the tree started to thin and there are less and less as we hike to the summit of Cardigan. On the top of Firescrew there is a fire tower that helps people see if there is a fire in the distance. Not only do humans change the environment, like eating plants, but the environment changes humans too. The weather is a big one because sometimes you have to wear boots or rain gear. Also people have to take care of the trails because of natural causes like storms and rain. In addition, we stopped and ate lunch near a glacier erratic where we could see the mountains in the distance. As we made our way down the mountain we got back just in time for dinner. We had hamburgers and caesar salad for dinner, which was provided by the AMC. Later Mr Woolner told everyone stories and we made our way to bed. Some people stayed up reading but others because of the very long hike, went right to bed. For the most part, today was a very fun and thrilling trip up and down the mountain and I would certainly do the long hike again to see the beautiful view.
