My last day of Cardigan was extremely eventful. We double checked we did not forget anything and prepared for our last hike. The night before Mr. Woolner told us everything we needed to do the last day. First, he told us to clean our bunks and throw our stuff into his trailer. After all our stuff was packed he let us go with our instructors. Since my group already hiked the nature trail we had to do the compass course. During the compass course, our instructors taught us how to use our comapasses. After they read off coordinates, each different coordinate led my group and I to different areas. We also had to find specific trees based on blurbs and small inserts that our instructors read to us. One of the coordinates led us through the forest next to the compass course. The compass course was at Dukes Meadow, right next to the pond. At the campground there were tent platforms and picnic tables. The final coordinate that my instructors gave us led us to an abandoned car. The car was rustic and basically a lump of metal. Across from the car, was an old machine that we learned was really a ski lift. My instructor, Erin, told us that we were actually standing on a ski trail and that when the trails were cleared, they made a ski lift. They think that they used the car engine to power the ski lift but when it broke they didn't want to roll down the hill so they abandoned it. According to Mr. Woolner, the car was left there after being shot in the wheel because it was part of an extreme bank robbery. On our way down we ventured into the woods and we saw stone walls and dead trees. After our compass course we filled out a survey about our trip and then got on to the bus. Mr. Woolner told us to wave and say goodbye to our counselors as we rolled away. I was playing a rock paper scissors deathmatch with Max and then it was bye bye Cardigan! Finally, we sang on the ride home and we talked about the best part of our trip. My favorite part of my Cardigan Mountain trip was the beautiful summit of Cardigan. When our instructors took us to the summit I felt amazing. The view was beautiful and was every warm color you could imagine. Even though it didnt last long, that highlight of my trip made it all worth it.
