This is a map of our drive to Cardigan and then where we walked around!
Day one was one of our shortest days. We started by going on a compass course, then we showered, unpacked, played an echo location game, listened to stories, and then went to bed. We got on the bus and sang songs, and when we got there we started out by playing a game where you had to go over and under people with a ball, and another team had to run in circles around a big group of people, and run as many times as you can, and once the team who was passing the ball over and under they would throw it as far as they could. On our hike, we began by walking to a clearing and then used a little booklet which told us to go to seven different spots by guiding us with a compass. We would use the GPS and mark our waypoints, and we did a lot of walking and marking down places we were. It was a lot of movement! Once we finished that we went on a hiking trail with all the other groups and got told a story. The story was all about hemlock trees. We walked up and down the trail a lot because it was very hilly, and also slippery. There were also a lot of streams and bogs and mud, so there were lots of bridges and logs to walk over. You had to be very focused on the ground or you would fall. Once we finished with our hike, we showered, and then played uno, and soon it was time for dinner! For dinner we ate spaghetti and meatballs, with salad and breadsticks. For dessert we had brownies. Soon after, we went outside for the evening program and played a game teaching us about echolocation. One person would be a moth, and the other would be a bat, and it was almost like marco polo. The bat had a blindfold and they would say bat, and when the moth heard that they would say moth. I was a moth. To finish off our night we made bracelets together and then brought them downstairs to finish while Mr. Woolner read us stories, and then we got candy from Ms. Stevenson and then went to bed.
My first theme for Cardigan was movement. Movement is all about moving, but it can be physical or in ideas. Traditions, food, songs, stories and more, can be moved, which is movement. But equipment, plants, and animals can also be moved. Cardigan has a lot of this movement, because not only are students and guides bringing songs, thoughts, rules, and ideas to and around cardigan, but they're also bringing clothes, backpacks, food, and water around cardigan.

Pictures above:
The top left is a big toothed Aspen Leaf. While we were sitting at a picnic table we found these leaves next to a tree, they have big "teeth" on the edges of the leaves that almost look like the edges of a saw, but aren't as hard.
The top right is a sugar maple leaf, which is also the leaf on the Canadian flag.
The bottom left is a machine made out of wheels that was used to power a ski lift, because we had hiked up a ski run. The wheels would turn and a belt would bring up skiiers.
The bottom right is mud on the trail we were hiking when we were told stories about the hemlocks, because it was so wet we were able to easily scoop up the mud and put it on our paper.
