Our seventh grade class went to odiorne for a day feild trip. We learned about the different zones, and even some animals and plants before the trip. We found more animals than we had learned about beforehand. At odiorne we climbed down all the different zones into the water which was only at low tide, so we we're able to go tide pooling. I will admit that at first the water was alittle chilly, but the longer and more you stayed in the water, the easier it got. Some of us ended up falling in alittle. Afterwards, we went to Johnsons Ice Cream, and ate ice cream before heading back to the school. We overall had a great time at Odiorne and Johnsons Ice Cream.
The rocks are not black, cyanobacteria, covers the rocks in black.
The rocks are not red, cyanobacteria, overs the rocks with weeds.
The red zone is by far the coolest. It has moss and plants growing all over the rocky terrain. Don't forget about the cyanobacteria that covers the rocks making them looks black. In the red zone, there is also little pools of water where I found a crab. The red zone is the closest zone to the surface of the water, so when high tide rolls in, the red zone is the first to be entirely covered. When it is in high tide, animals such as crabs and lobsters go closer to the shore going into the different zones. When the tide goes back down, some of the creatures there get trapped in small pools of water. There are also many barnicales that are in the red zone to look at. That is why I think the red zone is the coolest zone of them all to explore.
