Cardigan Mountain Location

Cardigan Mountain is part of the Appalachian mountains. A long mountain range that makes its way down to Virginia. Cardigan is on one side of a saddle with another mountain called Firescrew. Firescrew was given its name during a devastating fire that made many mountains bald. By that I mean that the fire came and burned away all the trees. And with nothing keeping the dirt to the stone, the dirt flew away leaving all the mountains bald, little trees, still covered, or a fire tower which is what Cardigan has. Cardigan is also surrounded by trees. Lots of them. When we were high up we saw one lonely orange tree in the sea of green. The trees you can see will include Oaks, Birch, Pine, and Beeches just to name a few. Cardigan is also a tad steep. You sometimes have to go on all fours to pass an obstacle.

Cardigan Mountain Place

Cardigan mountain is a rocky, woody, green place. There are steep cliffs and bumpy paths but the trails are drowned in trees. Pines, Oaks, Birch, Beech everywhere. And there are many animals too. There are many bird species like the Woodpecker. And there are also Bears, Coyotes, Beavers, and if you are lucky enough you can see a Moose, just to name a few. Once in awhile you will come across something humans made such as an old cellar hole. But you at the top of the mountain you can find an old cabin that is not in use anymore but still standing. You can also find the high cabin. A smallish cabin with a huge sleep/meeting room with TRIPLE decker beds and a smaller kitchen area. Then around the bottom of the mountain about a mile away from the peak there is the lodge. A huge house like place where two levels are nothing but bedrooms and on the second level there is an eating room, a gift shop, and a fireplace with couches and chairs. One of the greatest places on earth.

We were there for three days. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
