This is a picture I drew of the disgusting showers in the AMC Lodge. I drew this on the back of a postcard I sent to my parents as a assignment for geography!
Yes, I was forced to do this, I wouldn't do this kind of thing otherwise.
A place is one of the five themes of geography! And basically means an area that is defined by its characteristics. For example, the AMC Lodge on Cardigan Mountain is a place defined because it's owned by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), and because of the way that it was built. So, to wrap this whole spiel up, a place is an area that is defined by its' characteristics.
Another example of a place would be the fire tower on top of Mount Cardigan, this is because the fire tower was built for the specific purpose to be a watchtower for wildfires. It's also an example of a place because defined by its' environment. So, to sum this all up, the fire tower on top of Mount Cardigan is an example of a place because it was built for a specific purpose and is defined by its' surroundings.
The definition of the geography! Term 'location' is a more specific version of a place, which could be directions, like down the road. Or something as exact as coordinates. An example of a location at Cardigan mountain would be the exact coordinates of Mount Firescrew's summit. This is because the coordinates show you the exact spot where it's located.
Another example of a location at Cardigan would be the hiking trails because they're marked to direct you to a certain location. So to sum all of this up, the exact coordinates of Mount Firescrews summit and the hiking trails on Mount Cardigan would be examples of locations because they either direct you to a certain area or point out the exact place where something is located.
