What I Did on Day One

On day one we arrived and played a get to know you game. Then we got into our hiking groups. My group hiked the nature loop. On the nature loop we played a fun game where our guide hid a pencil and we tried to find it. Hiding the pencil in the environment/nature is an example of human environment interaction where humans change the environment. In this case our group changed the environment by placing a pencil in it. We also found really cool bugs on a tree next to where we played the pencil game. We could not tell what these white furry things are, but we thought they were bugs harming the tree due to the black leaves on and below the tree. When we poked them with the pencil (another example of human environmental interaction) they moved in kind of like a wave formation swaying back and forth. After examining and sketching the bugs we talked about where our eyes should be when we are hiking so we can observe things. After stopping for another sketch, we came to a clearing where we talked about vocabulary and found a Tusik caterpillar. In addition, we talked about a plant that is good for toilet paper and how to take a poo in the woods. At the end of the nature loop we stopped at campsite 11 and talked about the bear proof boxes (an example of human environmental interaction where the environment changes humans) and a cocoon. We made a hypothesis that is was a Tusik cocoon but, could not tell for sure. Also, we found yet, another example of human environmental interaction when we found some scattered glass around the sign of campcite 11. Lastly, we did a pond study and found many wildlife and took them out to further observe (human environment interaction). We also, talked about the oxygen level of the water and how clean it is in terms of chemicals. Therefore that is what we did on day one to sum up our day.
