This past cardigan trip really gave my grade and I joy away from the classroom and now I want to talk about a part of my trip ~ observing where you are and how everything interconnects. How i will show you this is by using one of the five themes of geography, location. Location explains the question where is it?. And does so using relative and absolute terms. As you can clearly see location is very helpful and is a part of our lives and how they operate.

Relative is describing where something is in terms of other things, which includes landmarks, objects, etc. So I will use this to describe where the cardigan mountain lodge is. It is east of the town Orange and west of Newfound lake. It is located in the town of Alexandria which is south of Dorchester. And is about a 10,000 feet east of the Mount Cadigan Summit.

Absolute location is where you use latitude and longitude to pinpoint your location. This is useful to exactly mark your point using seconds and minutes. And so the exact location of the mount cardigan lodge is 34 degrees 38 minutes 59 secoonds N and 71 degrees 52 minutes 40 seconds W.

By using both relative and absolute location you would easily be able to tell where I am talking about and describing.

Cultural:

Cardigan is not only a heaven for the wilderness to rome free, willingly, wild, but for humans to captivate and cherish nature at its greatest. The AMC group made this possible by setting up trails and building the lodge. They also supply us with handy maps, they leae behund cairns, and give us beds and food. All of these details are an example of something cultural at cardigan mountain. Here are some more: the campfire, the noises made by humans you hear while hiking, tracks left behind by humans, the graffiti dated to more than 150 years ago, the bridges, the wooden steps on the mountain, the bouy out on the pond, the litter, the firetower, ropes preventing you from falling, the parking lot and of course the AMC group. These are all examples of cultural geography because they can be easy linked to humans and our actions.

Physical:

Cardigan and firescrew mountain both express glorious views but also beauty in the wildlife that corasponds to millions of years of growth, evolution and fierce tension not only in the way the bird sings but how the winds whip at your ears and nose. The way the waterfall rushes with what seems ambitions, the way the blanket of mountains creates a panorama like nothing else. The way the invisible seeming ecosystems in the pond are diverse and very much living. The way the rain tells a sad story with the patter it makes against the leaves. The way the tracks of moose and deer give an image of when they did roam where your looking. These all are examples of physical geography because these all have to do with nature and the ecosystem in which they are a part of.

We were at the mount cardigan lodge for three days Sunday Monday, and Tuesday. All three days withheld a great amount of joy and learning. the AMC crew made our time there even more enjoyable.

-Thank You
